You can find or check an eBay UK username using the direct profile URL, the eBay app, or a free tool like Username Inspector. Visit ebay.co.uk/usr/username — if a profile loads, the account exists; if you get an error, the name is available or not in use.
If you've gone looking for eBay's "Advanced Member Search" or "Find a Member" feature recently and come up empty, that's not a bug — eBay removed it. The old search tool that let you look up members by username or email is gone globally, including on eBay UK.
Here's what actually works now.
Looking up an eBay UK seller by username
The direct profile URL is the fastest method. If you know someone's eBay username, go to:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/username
Replace username with the actual handle. If that account exists, their profile loads with feedback, listings, and seller information. If eBay returns an error or shows "Sorry, this user was not found," the username either doesn't exist or has been removed.
This works the same on ebay.com as it does on ebay.co.uk — eBay is a single global platform, so UK accounts are visible on both URLs. A seller registered on eBay UK will show up at both ebay.co.uk/usr/username and ebay.com/usr/username.
On mobile, the eBay app gets you there just as fast: open the app, type the username into the search bar, and tap the "Search for a user" suggestion that appears below it.
Searching for a seller by name (not username)
eBay doesn't let you search by real name. The only way to find someone is by their eBay username. If you know their username, the profile URL method above is the direct route — the general how to find a seller on eBay guide covers additional methods including Advanced Search and Google. If you don't know their username, your options are limited:
- Search for their listings and check the seller name on any active listing
- If they've left feedback on a transaction, you can click through to their profile from there
- Check if they've linked their eBay store to a website or social media account
There's no database on eBay UK that maps real names to usernames, and eBay won't provide this information. The old Advanced Member Search didn't offer it either.
What eBay replaced Advanced Member Search with
Not much, honestly. The removal left a gap that eBay never really filled. What's still available:
Seller Hub, if you're a registered seller, gives you access to your own transaction history, buyer details for your orders, and feedback records. It won't help you find other members.
Every eBay user has a public feedback profile at their profile URL, showing their rating history and recent feedback from other buyers and sellers. If you know the username, the profile URL method gets you there directly.
eBay's "Contact Member" messaging option only works if you've already had a transaction with that person. It won't help you find a stranger.
Checking if a username is available on eBay UK
If you're planning to register as a seller and want to know whether a particular username is taken, the profile URL method works for this too. Visit ebay.co.uk/usr/yourusername — if a profile loads, it's taken. If you get an error, it's likely available. The eBay app's "Search for a user" suggestion gives you the same answer without leaving the app.

eBay UK username rules
UK accounts follow the same rules as everywhere else on eBay:
- 3 to 64 characters
- Letters, numbers, underscores, hyphens, and periods allowed
- Cannot start or end with a space, hyphen, period, or underscore
- Cannot contain consecutive hyphens, periods, or underscores
- Cannot contain
@or spaces - Cannot contain trademarked terms like "eBay" or "PayPal"
