Every reselling platform takes a cut. On a $100 item, that cut ranges from nothing to $20 depending on where you list. Here's what each major platform actually charges.

Quick comparison: what you keep per sale

On a $50 sale (buyer pays shipping):

Platform Fee Structure Approximate Fees You Keep
Vinted Seller pays nothing $0 ~$50.00
Depop 3.3% + $0.45 ~$2.10 ~$47.90
Mercari 10% flat ~$5.00 ~$45.00
Etsy 6.5% + 3% + $0.25 + $0.20 listing ~$5.45 ~$44.55
eBay 13.6% + $0.40 ~$7.20 ~$42.80
Poshmark 20% (or $2.95 under $15) ~$10.00 ~$40.00

On a $100 sale:

Platform Fee Structure Approximate Fees You Keep
Vinted Seller pays nothing $0 ~$100.00
Depop 3.3% + $0.45 ~$3.75 ~$96.25
Mercari 10% flat ~$10.00 ~$90.00
Etsy 6.5% + 3% + $0.25 + $0.20 listing ~$10.20 ~$89.80
eBay 13.6% + $0.40 ~$14.00 ~$86.00
Poshmark 20% ~$20.00 ~$80.00

These are estimates. eBay's rates in particular vary significantly by category, and all platforms update their schedules periodically. The breakdowns below cover the full structure for each one.

eBay

eBay's fees vary by category, which makes them harder to calculate than most platforms.

Final value fee: 13.6% in most categories (clothing, electronics, home, sporting goods, toys), plus a $0.30-$0.40 per-order surcharge. A few categories differ: books and media at 15.3%, jewelry and handbags at 15%, collectibles at 13.25%, and athletic shoes over $150 at just 8%.

Insertion fees: Free for the first 250 listings per month. After that, $0.35 per listing.

Store subscriptions: Optional. Basic ($21.95/month), Premium ($59.95/month), Anchor ($299.95/month). Stores lower the final value fee and raise your free-listing limit. Worth running the math if you're consistently listing more than 250 items per month; otherwise skip it.

Promoted Listings: Optional. You set an ad rate (5% minimum) and only pay if the item sells within 30 days of someone clicking your promoted listing. Useful in competitive categories, but the 2026 attribution model change means you can end up paying on sales that would have happened anyway.

eBay's buyer base is larger than any other resale platform, and auctions can push prices above what fixed-price listings on smaller platforms would get. For the full category-by-category breakdown, see our eBay selling fees guide.

Poshmark

Poshmark is simple to understand and expensive to pay.

Commission:

  • Sales under $15: flat $2.95
  • Sales $15 and over: 20% of sale price

No listing fees, no monthly subscription, no payment processing fee. The 20% covers payment processing, buyer protection, dispute handling, and prepaid shipping labels.

Sale Price Poshmark Takes You Keep
$10 $2.95 $7.05
$15 $3.00 $12.00
$25 $5.00 $20.00
$50 $10.00 $40.00
$100 $20.00 $80.00

Notice the jump around $15. On a $10 sale, the $2.95 flat fee works out to a 29.5% effective rate. This is why experienced sellers avoid listing anything under $15 on Poshmark — the math doesn't work.

Shipping: Buyers pay a flat $8.27. You get a prepaid USPS label when the item sells, so shipping costs nothing out of pocket as long as the package stays under 5 lbs. Heavier items trigger upgrade fees that come out of your earnings.

Poshmark's 20% is steep, but the fashion-focused buyer base drives demand for clothing that's hard to replicate elsewhere. For items priced $50 and up, a lot of sellers find it still works out. See our Poshmark fee breakdown.

Mercari

Selling fee: 10% of the item price. That's it.

No listing fees, no monthly subscription, no separate payment processing charge. As of January 2025, Mercari dropped the old payment processing fee (2.9% + $0.50) and went to a flat 10%.

Shipping: Flexible. Use Mercari's prepaid labels, your own carrier, or Mercari Local for in-person pickup.

Lower than eBay and Poshmark, higher than Depop and Vinted. The buyer base is broad but tends to shop by price, so items need competitive pricing. See our Mercari selling FAQ.

Depop

For US and UK sellers, Depop charges 3.3% + $0.45 per sale.

Depop dropped its original 10% seller fee to 0% in 2024. What's left is the payment processing fee, making it the cheapest major platform after Vinted. On a $50 sale: $2.10. On a $100 sale: $3.75.

International sellers (outside the US and UK) still pay the 10% commission on top of processing.

Shipping: You handle your own labels. Depop doesn't provide prepaid shipping the way Poshmark and Mercari do.

The low fees matter most for lower-priced items, where Poshmark's flat fee or even Mercari's 10% would eat too much of the margin. The buyer base skews younger, with strong demand for vintage, Y2K fashion, and streetwear. See our Depop selling guide.

Etsy

Etsy has more fee line items than other platforms, which catches new sellers off guard.

Transaction fee: 6.5% of the sale price (including any shipping charged to the buyer).

Listing fee: $0.20 per listing, charged when you list and again when the item sells. Unsold listings auto-renew every four months at $0.20.

Payment processing: 3% + $0.25 per transaction (required for Etsy Payments in most countries).

Offsite Ads fee: If a buyer finds your listing through an Etsy-served ad on Google or Facebook and purchases within 30 days, Etsy adds an additional 12–15% fee. Sellers who earned over $10,000 on Etsy in the past year cannot opt out.

Adding it up on a $50 sale: $3.25 transaction + $0.20 listing + $1.75 payment processing = $5.20 in fees, keeping about $44.80.

The Offsite Ads fee is the one that surprises people. If a significant portion of your sales come through those placements, your effective rate can climb to 18–22% — approaching Poshmark territory. See how to start an Etsy shop for the full picture.

Vinted

Vinted charges sellers nothing. No commission, no listing fee, no payment processing fee.

Buyers pay a Buyer Protection Fee instead, typically 3–8% of the item price plus a flat amount. As a seller, you keep your full listed price.

The tradeoffs: Vinted's US buyer base is smaller than eBay, Poshmark, or Mercari. It works for clothing, shoes, and accessories, but not much else. Buyers know they're paying a protection fee on top of your price, so they tend to push for lower list prices to compensate. For the right categories, though, it's hard to argue with zero fees. See our Vinted selling guide.

Grailed

As of May 2026, Grailed charges a tiered commission — 6% (minimum $1.99) on sales under $120, and 9% on sales of $120 or more — plus payment processing of about 3.49% + $0.49. On a $100 sale that's roughly 10% total; on a $250 sale it's closer to 13%.

Grailed's buyers are specifically shopping for premium menswear, designer pieces, and high-end streetwear. Those items tend to sell for more on Grailed than on general platforms, which can offset the higher fee tier on pricier items. See our Grailed selling guide.

Ranked by fee rate

Platform Approximate Seller Fee
Vinted 0%
Depop ~3.3% + $0.45
Mercari 10%
Etsy ~9.7% + $0.45 (higher with Offsite Ads)
Grailed ~10% under $120, ~13% at $120+ (6-9% + 3.49% + $0.49)
eBay 13.25–15.3% + $0.30-0.40 (13.6% most categories)
Poshmark 20% (or $2.95 flat under $15)

When the cheapest platform isn't the best one

Fees aren't the only thing that determines what you keep.

eBay has more active buyers than any other resale platform. A $100 item might sell there in three days and sit on a smaller platform for three weeks. Selling faster at a slightly higher fee rate often puts more money in your pocket than waiting longer at a lower one.

Poshmark's 20% hurts less than it looks on paper, because fashion buyers on Poshmark expect to pay more than they would on Mercari. You price higher to account for the commission, and buyers accept it. The effective difference in what you keep is smaller than the headline fee gap suggests.

Category fit matters more than fee percentage. A designer jacket might go for $200 on Grailed and $140 on eBay. Grailed's 9% commission plus ~3.49% + $0.49 processing on $200 leaves about $174.53. eBay's 13.6% (plus the $0.40 surcharge) on $140 leaves $120.56. Similar fee rates, very different outcomes.

For most sellers, the answer isn't to pick one platform based on fees. Cross-list. Fashion goes on Poshmark and Depop. Electronics go on eBay and Mercari. Vintage goes on Etsy. Designer menswear goes on Grailed.

If you're just starting and want the path of least resistance, Mercari's flat 10% with no listing fees is probably the easiest place to begin. If fees are your primary concern and you're selling fashion, Depop at 3.3% + $0.45 is the clear winner.
